Water Quality

Water Quality is a program designed for older learners to grapple with the tough concepts of water pollution and its causes.  We take a multi-prong approach to evaluate a body of water through biological, chemical, and physical assessments.  Students will do a biological monitoring sample to find out what different aquatic species are present – or absent- and what that tells us about the water.  Canoeing gives an immersive experience in judging a lake’s shoreline health, potential as a wildlife habitat, or frequency of human trash/pollution.

Chemical tests round out the evaluation, testing for basic measures such as dissolved oxygen, phosphates, or pH levels.
