Integrative Sessions

Integrative sessions are highlights for staff and students alike. Environmental education relies on knowledge and skills from many disciplines. We emphasize the interdisciplinary aspect of EE with periodic integrative sessions. Instructors from several courses travel with the cohort to see how different fields intersect to deliver environmental education. These sessions ask: “How does research on natural systems feed into the delivery of EE?” and “How do different leadership styles work to guide management plans that address environmental issues in multiple sites?”. Examples of past sessions include state parks, a national seashore, urban programs in Chicago, decision makers in Indianapolis, large regional nature centers, EE conferences, policy makers in Washington DC, sustainable engineering firms, university programs and state forests. We strive to demonstrate how environmental education spans from teaching students on site to public outreach and understanding how society values a healthy environment. We also delve into the implications of environmental education for public policy.
